Roof Repairs and Maintenance

Your roof is your home's first line of defense against all of the unpredictable forces of nature. It protects your loved ones and your valued possessions from the extreme weather conditions that we as Floridians experience regularly. Baking sun, driving rain, powerful wind and the threat of hurricanes are all too common in North Florida. This constant bombardment by nature continually wears on the roof of your home and can put you and your valuables at risk if your roof is damaged or worn out. Unlike many of the items that we purchase today, there is no obvious reminder for maintenance and service to your roof. If your roof has a leak, it does not necessarily need replacement. Conversely, if your roof does not leak, you should not necessarily delay replacement until it does. Many homeowners find there is a problem with their roof only after they see a stain on their ceiling and discover a leak. This could result in severe damage to wood and sheetrock and create other costly problems.

Our goal at Tadlock Roofing is to educate our community concerning the roofing industry, so each homeowner can make an informed decision about their roof, before additional damage and cost is incurred. This can be accomplished if the homeowner follows a few simple guidelines:

  1. Assess the age of your roof. If your shingle roof was installed prior to 2000, it will typically have a 20 year, 3 tab shingle or a 25 year architectural shingle on it. Most roofs in our area need replacement at 14-18 years.
  2. Do not let leaves and debris pile up on your roof, in the valleys or at the gutters.
  3. Look at your roof. Are the shingles losing granules and/or curling up on the ends? Are they discolored? Are the vents and flashing raised up?

Even a suspicion of a problem should be noted and addressed by a licensed roofing contractor.

A licensed roofing contractor can help you decide if you need a repair or if your roof needs to be replaced. There are many ways to find a licensed roofing contractor. I suggest you visit the FRSA (Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Association) website or the CRSA (Capital City Roofing and Sheet Metal Association) website or contact the Better Business Bureau or the Department of Business and Professional Regulation for professional and credible contractors. It is very important that you are cautious and deliberate in contacting only licensed roofing contractors and that you check several sources for credibility.
